Governor Granholm signs smoking ban at MBC Pub Lansing Minimize

Governor Jennifer Granholm signed Michigan’s new smoking ban at our downtown Lansing location on Friday, December 18th.    Governor Granholm used the MBC Pub location as an example of success operating a smoke free restaurant. She said the Michigan Brewing Company’s experience with going smoke-free shows that "you can make a go of it and be very successful, and be healthy as well."   Michigan Brewing Company has been smoke free since we opened our first tap room in 1995.

Dozens of smoking ban supporters cheered when the Governor proclaimed “It’s done” when she signed the bill. “This is the greatest gift we could give the citizens of Michigan because it keeps on giving," said state Senator Ron Jelinek, who helped craft the bill that became law.

The smoking ban applies to all bars, restaurants and work places and includes private clubs and fraternal orders.  There are a few establishments that are exempt or excluded form the ban.  These exceptions include cigar bars, tobacco shops, and motor vehicles.
